FedEx Restores Its Promise On Overnight Deliveries...Again

In November 2021, FedEx suspended its money-back guarantee until January 16, 2022. They added a caveat that, “The status of the money-back guarantee for these FedEx services and additional FedEx services worldwide is being evaluated on an ongoing basis, and our focus remains on continuing to provide the best possible service to our customers during this period of uncertainty.”

We hoped early 2022 would see the full return of the carrier’s money-back guarantee. Our hopes were partially realized.

A partial return…again

Effective January 17, 2022, FedEx reinstated their money-back guarantee for their US domestic and US export FedEx Express services. According to their website, these services include: 

  • FedEx First Overnight®
  • FedEx Priority Overnight®
  • FedEx Standard Overnight®
  • FedEx International First®
  • FedEx International Priority®
  • FedEx International Priority® Express
  • FedEx International Priority® Freight

Guarantees have also been reinstated for the following contract services: 

  • FedEx First Overnight Extra Hours
  • FedEx Priority Overnight Extra Hours
  • FedEx Standard Overnight Extra Hours

With the reinstatement of this guarantee, FedEx Express customers can request a refund or credit of their shipping charges if the carrier misses their published or quoted delivery time by more than 60 seconds, barring customs delays.

What service guarantees weren’t reinstated?

While these reinstatements are a great start, we’re still not back to the level of pre-2020 money-back guarantees offered by FedEx. Here’s a list of the services that are not covered in case of a service failure at this time: 

  • All other FedEx Express
  • FedEx Ground®
  • FedEx Freight®
  • FedEx Office® services

Will these services receive coverage in the future? Only time will tell. For now, the carrier says it will continue to evaluate the status of the money-back guarantee while providing excellent service to its customers.

According to the FedEx website, “If the money-back guarantee is suspended, there is no remedy or recovery of charges for a service failure. There are no delivery commitments for shipments on which the money-back guarantee is suspended.” While you may lack recourse for late deliveries, you still have options that will reduce your shipping costs.
