2026 UPS & FedEx General Rate Increase

a snapshot of various pages from the general rate increase report

UPS and FedEx raise rates every year but that doesn't mean your shipping costs have to increase too. The General Rate Increase (GRI) guide was created to help you lower your shipping expenses.

  • 5.9% minimum increase for both carriers
  • Oversize fees +10% higher
  • New “Cubic Determination” on large packages

Over the last decade carrier rates have spiked MORE THAN 70% - nearly double the rate of inflation over that same period.

2026 General Rate Increase Key Highlights

Both Carriers Increase Rates by 5.9%

Another year, another 5.9%. Both UPS and FedEx matched their increases again for 2026. And while this is consistent with the last couple of years, it’s still 20% more than the historical, pre-COVID increases of 4.9%

Bulky Package Shipping Gets More Expensive

In a break with recent GRIs, the increases for oversize and additional handling fees are “only” in the single digits (5%-10%). Not too bad, when compared to the 20%-30% we’ve seen the last few years.

A New “Cubic Determination” on Large Packages

Both carriers are adding a cubic determination to additional handling and large / oversize packages. Now a carton as small as 21x21x21 will be assessed as much as $40.75 ($330 for 26x26x26)

Many common surcharges have spiked by 25%-30%! Take action now!
