fdx for all... but will it save you $$?

Oct 1, 2024 · 2 minutes read

Until now, fdx was open to select shippers who have been previewing the software since January of this year. Now, the carrier has made its platform to help shippers "grow demand, increase conversion, optimize fulfillment, and streamline returns" available to businesses of all sizes within the US.

How can fdx insights help you with your business and shipping decisions? With more insights into your shipping journey, do you still need parcel audits? We'll look into what fdx does— and does not— offer its users.

What is fdx?

When announcing the launch of fdx US-wide, FedEx President and CEO Raj Subramaniam said, "The fdx platform is the next step in our connected commerce journey as we make supply chains smarter for everyone."

Fdx is a data-driven commerce platform that connects FedEx network insights to the customer journey— integrating with Shopify, Etsy, Salesforce, Zendesk, and more for a holistic customer experience.

Using AI and machine learning, fdx is essentially a digital twin of the FedEx physical network. It provides real-time intelligence in an easy-to-use platform that enables users to increase conversions, problem-solve, provide customer support, and streamline returns.

Don't use FedEx as your majority carrier? No problem. The platform supports UPS, USPS, and DHL in addition to FedEx.

How can customers use fdx?

On its website, fdx highlights fashion brand Z Supply, whose use of fdx led to a 6.33% increase in revenue and a 1.34% boost in mobile conversions. Another company, Contravisual Brands Group, activated the fdx automated returns process, reducing manual effort by 30% and decreasing customer service cases by 40%.

The fdx platform offers:

●       More accurate delivery estimates through predictive technology

●       FedEx Sustainability Insights to empower customers to make informed decisions with CO2 emissions data

●       Branded tracking pages to enhance the customer experience

●       A centralized platform to manage returns

With more insights available to merchants than ever, shippers can reduce the time spent managing shipping issues and instead focus on activities to grow their businesses.

Can fdx track service failures?

Subramaniam said, "The FedEx physical and digital network moves over 15 million packages per day globally. With this scale of insight and intelligence, we have a deep understanding of our customers and the needs of their consumers." With this "deep understanding," the fdx website focuses on improving the customer experience with regards to service failures— with no indication that the platform will facilitate refunds for those failures.

The carrier can "mitigate disruptions with real-time alerts for at-risk or delayed shipments, enabling swift action and resource allocation" —  meaning it's aware of the service failures you experience.

However, like UPS, FedEx company policy puts the burden on shippers to discover and request refunds.

While fdx is a phenomenal new solution for increasing conversion and customer satisfaction, you shouldn't say goodbye to third-party parcel audits.

ShipRx's parcel audit software automatically performs more than 40 checks on every parcel billed to discover refunds and resolve disputes with your carrier.

Don't miss out on the benefits of fdx, but make sure you're prioritizing your bottom line— not FedEx's.
