FedEx SameDay Local: When Tomorrow is Too Late

Move over, Uber Courier, DoorDash, and Postmates. There’s a new same-day delivery service in town. On March 24, FedEx announced the launch of ++FedEx SameDay Local++, a new service for customers with expedited shipping needs.

We live in a time where 96% of consumers define “++fast delivery++” as same-day, and 25% say they’d abandon their cart if same-day isn’t available. Discover what FedEx SameDay Local is, who’s eligible to use the service, and how to get the best rates on this and all FedEx services.

What is FedEx SameDay Local?

In partnership with the comprehensive last-mile delivery solution company, OneRail, FedEx shoppers gain access to more than 1,000 delivery providers for same-day service. Intelligent orchestration will coordinate the most efficient solution, guaranteeing delivery within a 2-hour window or by the end of the day.

Jason Brenner, senior vice president, digital portfolio at FedEx, said, “FedEx SameDay Local will provide our customers with a scaled solution to give the delivery options customers want, without adding complexity to their operations—all backed by the confidence of working with FedEx.”

FedEx SameDay Local gives shippers access to:

  • Two-hour and end-of-day service options with a national network
  • Time-definite delivery windows
  • Near real-time tracking, predictive ETAs, and proof of delivery
  • Flexible integration
  • AI-optimized provider selection, routing, and delivery performance
  • 24/7 proactive monitoring and support
  • Delivery fulfillment for large, oversized, or specialized parcels

Who Can Use FedEx SameDay Local?

The WSJ reports that the service is currently in ++testing mode++ with several large retailers, and FedEx urges customers to contact their sales representatives directly for more information.

The carrier has made it clear that it wants to grow its business in the ++healthcare and automotive industries++, among ++others++, and FedEx SameDay Local is uniquely positioned to support those with urgent shipping needs.

This service is all about giving customers a choice. The announcement in FedEx’s newsroom says, “Consumers don’t just expect ‘as fast as possible’ delivery for every order—they increasingly want choices. Some purchases need to arrive immediately, others must come within a precise time window, and sometimes shoppers want the most economical option and are willing to wait.”

Same Day Service, Without Breaking the Bank

FedEx says its latest service is another step in the “company’s ability to support customers across the full delivery lifecycle from long-haul transportation to local last-mile fulfillment.”

No matter where your shipping needs fall in the delivery lifecycle, ShipRx can ensure you’re getting the best pricing. Our ++FedEx contract negotiation services++ analyze your shipping operations and current contract to pinpoint potential savings opportunities.

While gig-economy delivery services offer speed and affordability, they can also come with risks. Who’s handling your package? And what happens if something goes wrong? Whether you’re sending important documents, medical equipment, auto parts, or products, delivery matters. More than half of retailers currently offer same-day delivery. If you’re not, research says you could be losing up to 1/4 of online orders.

Trust ShipRx to get you the best rates on same-day or economy solutions to save on shipping and increase your conversions.
