UPS + American Express: Savings for SMBs

Sep 12, 2025 · 3 minutes read

Despite talking a big game about reducing savings opportunities, UPS has teamed up with American Express to attract small-and medium-sized businesses by offering big savings through the American Express Business Suite.

What is the American Express Business Savings Suite Offer?

From now through February 28, 2026, American Express Business Savings Suite offers savings to merchants on Domestic, International, and Air services. Yes, you read that right! These discounts are valid through the holiday season.

When American Express business customers sign up for a UPS account or sign into their existing UPS account using the dedicated offer landing page and apply the discount to their UPS shipping account, they can save:

●       Up to 50% off UPS Ground rates
●       Up to 72% off UPS Air Services
●       Up to 74% off UPS International services

Savings are dependent on shipping volume, and discounts increase with the average weekly shipping volume.

In addition to incentives for shipping, the collaboration also offers a reduction on several surcharges:

●       50% off Domestic Residential Surcharge
●       50% off Residential Surcharge (Import/Export)
●       20% off Domestic Fuel Surcharge
●       50% off Domestic Delivery Area Surcharge and Domestic Delivery Area Surcharge Extended
●       50% off Import Delivery Area Surcharge and Import Delivery Area Surcharge Extended
●       50% off Export Delivery Area Extended and Export Remote Area

Merchants should be aware that minimum shipping charges are still in effect for Ground, 3-Day Select, and Standard to Canada. For example, customers shipping via 3-Day Select will be responsible for paying the greater of the net package charge published in the incentives chart, or the published rate for a 1-pound, Zone 302 package, less 25%.

Why Partner Now?

In the collaboration announcement, Colleen Taylor, President of U.S. Merchant Services at American Express, says, “During the critical holiday season, when every transaction counts, small businesses often rely on credit cards to manage cash flow, stock inventory, and meet surging demand – all while looking for the best way to get their shipments where they need to go. That’s why Amex and UPS are teaming up to support small businesses during this make-or-break time of year.”

The partnership isn’t entirely benevolent, though. SMBs are often more profitable on a per-parcel basis for UPS than high-volume shippers, and earning SMB business now is one way UPS is attempting to beat out the competition in this market.

In its Q2 earnings call, UPS Investor Relations Officer PJ Guido noted that, despite SMBs making up 32% of total US volume, “Year over year, the SMB growth rate was flat.” He says, “SMBs are disproportionately impacted in this space. However, they’re looking to UPS and where the strength of our capabilities, the strength of our network is really what positions us well right now.”

UPS is aware of the plight of SMBs in the current market, and with the uncertainty over impending tariffs, they’re motivated to capture market share now more than ever.

You don’t need to sign up for American Express to benefit from UPS’ desire for SMB growth. Work with ShipRx on UPS parcel negotiations to secure savings that won’t expire on February 28.
